Our Methodology

J3media has developed a specific methodology to help deliver cost-effective and successful web sites. We work closely with our clients - from initial requirements gathering, to coding, to final sign off and delivery - to ensure our clients that they get what they need.

Additionally, we don't believe our job is done once a site is live. Through long term relationships with our clients we provide site maintenance, and ongoing consulting on ways to make your site an effective extension of your business.

Below is a step by step guide to developing a new web site or custom application.

Step 1.

We want you to tell us exactly what you expect to achieve with your web site. Develop a mission statement and a goal you want your web site to achieve. During our initial meetings with you, we will help you with this if you need help.

Some example goals:

  • Reduce customer service calls by 10%, and reduce the length of each customer service call by 25%.
  • Reduce printing costs by 50%.
  • Increase sales of my widget by 10%.

It's important at the outset to think of your web site as an extension of your business. If your web site is not an integral part of your overall business strategy, you will find yourself wasting time and energy maintaining a site that is not adding to your bottom line.

Step 2.

This is the requirements gathering phase, and probably the most important part of the web design process. We meet with you to find out how you wish to go about achieving your web site goals. We use our web design check list to initiate discussions about what you want in your new web site.

Our Graphic designers will also be meeting with you to find out your design preferences. From the requirements gathering phase we will develop a cost estimate for your project. On larger projects we will present site mock-ups, diagrams, and wire frames of how the site will work. We will also at this time evaluate whether our existing code base can be used for your project, or if we will need to develop a custom solution for you.

Step 3.

Step 3 is a continuation of step 2. You have accepted our estimate, given us a deposit, and signed a design agreement. You will also have delivered to us all initial content for your site.

We are ready to get to work. Our graphic designer will be working on design mock ups. Programmers will be prototyping any custom functionality you require. You will see in short time how your web site will look and function; however, it will not be plugged into a database or have any back-end functionality. This is the time to play 'what if' scenarios. You may discover you need additional functionality, or you may find that our initial estimate was overkill for what you need. Sometimes our initial estimate will need to be modified to match these changes.

Step 4.

You have reviewed our mock-ups and prototypes and signed off on them. We begin coding your web site. Our developers will develop and test each module needed for your site and plug it in. On larger projects we release the site in increments to assure that each module works as it is intended to work.

Step 5.

Client sign off. The client signs off on the final design and functionality, pays us a final deposit and the site goes live!

For 30 days after release, we will fix any bugs found in the application.

Step 6.
This is the maintenance phase. We are available to manage site updates for a reasonable hourly rate.
